About me
Richard Stiennon is Chief Research Analyst and founder of IT-Harvest, reinventing the industry analyst business by
building one of the most comprehensive datasets on the cybersecurity
industry, tracking more than 4,000 vendors worldwide. Not relying on
vendor briefings and subjective rankings, Stiennon developed a
data-driven view — mapping vendors, products, funding, acquisitions,
people, and market structure. This now powers new forms of research,
AI-driven market intelligence, and strategic advisory services for
cybersecurity companies, investors, and acquirers.
Previously, Mr. Stiennon held roles including Chief Marketing Officer at Fortinet and VP of Research at Gartner.
He is the author of Security Yearbook 2025: A History and Directory of the IT Security Industry, Secure Cloud Transformation: The CIO’s Journey, Surviving Cyberwar, and the Washington Post bestseller There Will Be Cyberwar. His latest book, Guardians of the Machine Age, chronicles the birth of the AI Security industry.
Mr. Stiennon holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering (Michigan) and an M.A. in War in the Modern World from King’s College London.
